Last Thursday the transport industry gathered to recognise and celebrate the organisations and people who have made a real difference in the past 12 months.
The judges nominated a number of individual winners including Stephen Joseph OBE who took away the 'Lifetime Contribution to Transport' award.
Though a member of the judging panel himself, Stephen was completely surprised by the addition of this award into the programme on the night.
For the past 30 years Stephen has been part of the UK advocacy group Campaign for Better Transport (formerly Transport 2000). For 20 of these years he acted as Chief Executive and now stepped into an advisory position.
Stephen has led numerous successful policy campaigns, is frequently quoted by the national press, and is a regular author of research and opinion pieces. He was awarded the OBE in 1996 for services to transport and the environment. In 2008 he was honoured with a PTRC Lifetime Achievement Award 'for furthering the role of transport planning in society'.
Fellow member of the judging panel, Transport Focus' Anthony Smith presented the award and noted what a genuinely nice person Stephen is and how great he is to work with.
